Their 25-year-old downtown condo was “in need of some love,” but oozed potential, so, together, this country singer and her husband created their ‘sanctuary in the sky’

She was itching to get out of their “dingy, dark” rental apartment. He was scratching around for a unique project to do. Jenna Walker and Ryan Watson found their solution in a 25-year-old downtown condo “in need of some love,” but oozing potential.
They bought the two-bedroom corner suite in summer 2023, “almost to the day” of their first wedding anniversary, says Walker.
She’s a singer-songwriter who forms the award-winning country duo, The Reklaws, with her brother Stuart Walker. Her husband works for a Toronto commercial design-and-build company.
The day they got the keys to the condo, he began ripping out the ceiling, laughs Walker. Knee-deep in debris, “we thought we were definitely in over our heads,” she admits.
Then came the “crazy” number of decisions on everything from flooring to bathroom layout.
But “we knew what we wanted” from the get-go, notes Watson. The couple’s wish list included a bigger kitchen and dining area, ample space to entertain and a guest bedroom for stay-overs.
The four-month project was “all worth it in the end,” says Walker, describing their condo in a quiet midrise as “a sanctuary in the sky” with a warm, organic feeling.
She adds: “I wish my mom could’ve seen this. She’d be like, ‘Wow!’”
Jenna and her siblings “lost their mother to mental health” in 2022, following a lifelong battle with severe depression. The family recently launched the “Flo Walker Stardust Fund” to raise money for Kids Help Phone. The Reklaws also released a new collection of songs call “Outliving (For Mom)” as a tribute.
Walker, who grew up on the family farm near Cambridge, Ont., calls her transition to “city gal” a welcome one.
“The thing I love about the city is coming downstairs and seeing everything so alive.”
